A contemporary house, nestled in a heritage wooded lot in Eugene’s South Hills Neighborhood, the Storey House exemplifies the best in modern living.

The house is solidly anchored to its very steep site, yet allows for barrier-free living on the entire ground level. With private views of the forest to the north and a small creek to the west, the property offers a variety of ground-level and rooftop spaces for gardening, entertaining, and relaxation surrounded by the adjoining forest.

Inside the home, a soaring ceiling, a second-floor loft, and numerous large windows let in copious amounts of natural light and green views of the forest canopy all around. The first floor, with the main bedroom suite, kitchen, dining, and living spaces, was designed to be fully accessible -ideal for comfort and aging-in-place.

The second level includes two more bedrooms, a bathroom, a generous loft, and the large rooftop terrace. Natural daylight, beauty, health, human delight, and energy efficiency were important goals for this design. Exterior materials were chosen for durability and low maintenance. Building orientation, sun shading, above-code energy efficiency, and smart window design contribute greatly to comfort while reducing heating, cooling, and lighting needs.
