Designed in partnership with Metaamo Studio, Eagle Haven Village is a permanently affordable and accessible community housing project for indigenous folks in recovery from substance use. Social support services will be provided via on-site staff offices.
The site layout was designed to foster connection between residents and is comprised of five clusters of six tiny houses each, with a small gathering space and fire pit in the center of each cluster. The clusters are arranged around a large central covered outdoor gathering space, where traditional salmon pit cookouts and other community events will be held. Other outdoor amenities include a community garden, a half basketball court and a nature walking path.
Eagle Haven was designed to the Evergreen Sustainable Development Standard. Key sustainability features include a rainwater harvesting system to supply the washing machines and provide emergency potable water. All lighting and appliances are ENERGY STAR or WaterSense rated, and the site is fossil fuel-free. All landscaping species are native to the Coast Salish region. Bioretention planters meander through the site, helping filter stormwater and provide habitat space.
