What began as a complete overhaul of the kitchen of this mid-century split-level house evolved into a full renovation of its interior spaces and extensive site and landscape work.

Located in an older established neighborhood lined with heritage trees, a curving stair invites you to the front door of the house perched on a rise above the street.

The clients originally approached Studio.e with the request to update the kitchen and open it up to the dining and living spaces. Eventually the project evolved from a remodel to a full aesthetic and functional transformation of the interior and exterior spaces, materials and colors.

A new ethanol fireplace with a striking granite hearth was added to the expanded great-room. The kitchen was updated to create a dynamic angled peninsula between it and the dining area. Because the original ceilings were -in typical ranch-style fashion- low, the gypsum board finishes were removed in strategic locations, new exposed beams added to replace the old ceiling joists, and light tubes, LED strip lights and new pendant lights were placed to create a elegant and modern, yet functional new environment perfectly suited for both entertaining and day-to-day comfort. In addition to partially re-siding the exterior, a small addition was made to the front entrance in order to enlarge the split level vestibule. Modern elements, including a brushed stainless steel structural column and sensuous silvery slate floors complete the remodel create a welcoming and generous new vestibule.

A stylish new exterior stair curving up to the front door of the house, combined with an elegant ramp leading to an expansive new deck at floor level in the back of the house, ensure that this split-level home is accessible to people of all ages, abilities and mobility.

A beautiful and revitalization of the existing landscape, integrating towering mature vegetation with lush and colorful new plantings helps complete this beautiful project.
